Ecker Named ECWC Rookie of the Year
ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Seth Ecker (Pottstown/Pottstown, Pa.) of the Ithaca College wrestling team has been named Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Year.
Ecker went 23-8 and earned all-America honors at the NCAA Championships. He advanced to the semifinals (upsetting the tournament’s fourth seed in the quarterfinal round) before placing sixth. Ecker won the season-opening Ithaca Invitational and was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Wrestler, earning Wrestler of the Week honors from the ECWC and D3wrestle.com. He won the ECWC title (beating a 31-0 wrestler in the final) to earn an automatic bid to nationals. A two-time ECWC Rookie of the Week, Ecker won seven times by fall, seven times by technical fall and three times by major decision.
Ecker is the third Bomber in as many years to win the award, joining teammates Justin Seifried (2007) and Blaine Woszczak (2008).
