Leo Dormann Earns Academic All-American Honors from NWCA; Three Stevens Wrestlers Named to Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll

 

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Recently, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its annual Academic All-American team, and Stevens Institute of Technology junior 157-pounder Leo Dormann made the grade. Dormann, had a season-high 16-match winning streak and finished 2009 with a fantastic overall record of 29-9. In addition to Dormann, sophomore Robert W. Bolomey III and junior Frank Maselli were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Dormann, an Electrical Engineering major had an undefeated mark in the Centennial Conference regular season and finished third in the 157-lb. weight class at the conference tournament at the end of February. Bolomey is a Chemical Engineering major and wrestled in the 149-lb. weight class for Stevens in the conference championships. Maselli was the top Stevens 125-pounder all year and is a Civil Engineering major. To be eligible for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must participate in at least 50 percent of conference contests and achieve a 3.40 grade-point average. 13 wrestlers made it to the all-conference honor roll, with five being named NWCA Academic All-Americans.

Stevens finished 6-1 in the conference during the regular but fifth in the conference tournament as freshman 174-pounder Ryan Dormann went to the NCAA’s after winning an individual conference championship in his weight class.

Head Coach Mike Clayton was named the conference Coach of the Year as the Ducks won a program-record 12 matches in 2008-09 and battled numerous injuries.
