Springer named to Philly-SIDA All-Academic Team

 

PHILADELPHIA – Three Ursinus College athletes were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly-SIDA Winter All-Academic All-Area team on Sunday.

The team is voted upon by sports information directors within the Philadelphia area. Student-athletes must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be at least a sophomore and be a significant contributor to the team.

Earning spots were sophomore Lloyd Tannenbaum (Men’s Swimming), Erin Slaunwhite (Women’s At-Large/Gymnastics) and Chris Springer (Men’s At-Large/Wrestling).

Tannenbaum (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) was a standout performer for the men’s swimming team during his sophomore season. During the Centennial Conference Championship meet, he helped set three school relay records. The top point-getter for the Beras, he was second in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:40.17 at CC championships, while finishing third in the 500 freestyle at championships.

Slaunwhite (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar) enjoyed an outstanding sophomore season as well. A biology major, she earned an at-large bid to NCGAs with a 9.575 on the balance beam at the ECAC Championships hosted by Ursinus. She also had a team-high 9.550 on the vault during ECACs. During the regular season, she had a team-high 9.625 on the vault at the Pennsylvania Quad Meet, and scored a team-high 9.425 on the bars at the Towson Invitational.

Springer (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) finished his career by finishing second at the Centennial Conference Championships at the 157 pound bracket. An exercise and sports science major, he finished the season with a team-high 31 wins, with ten by major decision. During the Centennial Conference dual meet season, he had an 8-2 mark.
