Cougar men fifth, women sixth at CIS Championships in Calgary
The University of Regina’s wrestling teams wrapped up their seasons over the weekend at the 2009 CIS Championships in Calgary. The women’s team placed fifth, while the men finished in sixth place.
Silver medals from both Hajar Ashtiani and Jade Parsons highlighted the women’s team’s performance. Ashtiani took the silver at 48 kg to win her third CIS medal, while Parsons finished in second place at 51 kg and was named the CIS Rookie of the Year.
Kyle Bershatsky had the U of R’s top finish on the men’s side, finishing in second place at 65 kg to win a silver medal in his first appearance at a national meet. Peter De La Cruz (68 kg) and rookie Connor Malloy (72 kg) both won bronze medals for the Cougars.
