Sanders Signs with UC Wrestling
The University of the Cumberlands Men’s Wrestling program is one that has continued to grow tremendously over the last few years. This year will be no different as Head Coach Andy Medders has announced the signing of Austin Sanders of Pepperell High School in Lindale, Georgia. Sanders, the son of Rusty and Cindy Sanders, signed his letter of intent to be a member of the Patriot Men’s Wrestling team for the 2009-2010 season.
During his time at Pepperell High School, Austin was a two time state qualifier in his weight class. Those two qualifications came in his junior and senior years. When Austin was asked about signing with Cumberlands, he said, “I’m real excited about continuing my career into the college level. I chose the University of the Cumberlands because I love the small town atmosphere. It also helps my decision when the wrestling program is so good too.â€
Coach Andy Medders commented on Austin saying, “I actually found Austin on MySpace. The reason I was really interested in Austin is because of his height. Not many wrestlers like to get in there with a tall guy. He’s 6’4†and can do a lot of damage. If he gets to the mat, he can use his leverage and be very effective. His potential could be endless.â€
