Simchi brothers lead Yeshiva past Bergen CC in Wrestling

(New York, NY) - Junior Ariel Simchi (Fairlawn, NJ/Frisch) notched a pinfall in the 149-pound weight-class, and sophomore Ron Simchi (Fairlawn, NJ/Frisch) won via technical pinfall in the 157-pound weight-class to lead the Yeshiva University Wrestling team to a 29-18 win over Bergen Community College on Feb. 4 at the Max Stern Athletics Center. With the win, YU ends the season with a 1-7 overall record.

Two forfeit wins gave Yeshiva a 12-6 lead before Ariel Simchi won at 2:20 of the first period to make it 18-6. Ron Simchi followed wit a technical pinfall win to make it 23-6 and all but put the match away for Yeshiva. Bergen CC turned in two straight wins to make it 23-18 before a Yeshiva forefit win gave the Maccabees the final score.

Yeshiva’s 1-7 record included outstanding performances all season long by a team without a senior on the roster, and there are high hopes that next season will bring with it even more success.
