SMSU Gets Wrestling Committ

MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State head wrestling coach Jesse Nelson announced today the signing of Demond Carter for the 2009-10 academic season. Carter most recently wrestled for Lincoln Community College (Ill.) and is a 2007 graduate East St. Louis High School in Illiniois.

At Lincoln, Carter was an All-American and captained the Lynx. He was an all-conference wrestler at East St. Cloud High School and a state and national qualifier. He is expected to wrestle at 149 pounds for SMSU.

“Demond comes to us with a lot of experience as he was a junior college All-American,” said Nelson. “We expect great leadership from him both on and off the mat.”

Carter joins a group of 11 others who Nelson has signed for 2009-10.

SMSU finished the 2008-09 season 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the NSIC. The Mustangs sent two wrestlers to the NCAA championships.

Southwest Minnesota State University, located in Marshall, Minn., is a member of NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
