Bomber Wrestling Schedule Announced

ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca College has announced its 2008-09 wrestling schedule. The Bombers, who are coming off one of the program’s most successful seasons, open the season by hosting the 27th annual Ithaca Invitational.

Ithaca went 14-1 last winter – one win short of the school record, won the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) title and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships behind seven national qualifiers and five all-Americans (both were the program’s highest totals since 1994).

The Bombers face Cortland, Oneonta, Oswego, Rochester Institute of Technology and Wilkes in dual-match competition as well as a pair of Division I opponents. Ithaca takes on Binghamton and Buffalo in a triangular meet to be held at Shenendehowa High School.

As always Ithaca will participate in a number of top-flight tournaments. Besides the Ithaca Invitational (where the Bombers are the defending team champions), the team will compete at Division I Cornell’s invitational, Wilkes’ John Reese Duals (where the team went 4-0 a year ago), York’s Spartan Classic and Lycoming’s Budd Whitheill National Duals. Last winter the Bombers placed second in that 20-team event.

Cornell will host the all-division New York State Championships, the ECWC Championships will be held at RIT and the NCAA Championships are at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ithaca has recorded 13 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships (winning national titles in 1989, 1990 and 1994). At least one Bomber has earned all-America honors since 1983.
