Nittany Lions Nab #1 Junior Prospect
Megaludis Makes Early Pledge to Penn State
With the 2010 class still in process of rounding out, the Penn State Nittany Lions received a verbal pledge from one of 2011′s gems. On Friday, Niko Megaludis, already a state champion and two-time PIAA big-school placer-winner in his young career, informed Coach Sanderson and staff of his intentions of continuing his development in Happy Valley.
TOM’s #1 2011 125lb prospect, Megaludis has won a Fila Cadet Freestyle National Title. This summer he reached the finals of USA Wrestling’s Junior Freestyle National Championships in Fargo North Dakota where he lost 1-0, 1-0 on ball-grabs in each period.
In March, at the PIAA championships, Megaludis defeated Cadet National Freestyle Champion, Zach Horan or Nazareth, to capture his first state title. Wrestling for Franklin Township High School, Megaludis has also won two Powerade Tournament titles in as many tries. Last year, at 112lbs, he defeated Indiana Hoosier verbal, Zack Zimmer of Clovis, a California State 3rd placewinner. As a freshman, Megaludis beat Devin Carter of Christiansburg, VA, in the Powerade finals, 6-3.
Continuing a recent trend of early commitments, Megaludis becomes the second top-flight prospect of the 2010-11 class to verbal. 125/133 lb prospect, Hunter Steiber, of Monroeville, OH, recently pledged to follow his brother, Logan, to Ohio State.
Interview with Niko forthcoming.
