North Idaho wins program’s 600th

The North Idaho College wrestling team opened the 2009-2010 season with a bit of history, overmatching Montana State Northern 35-6 to earn the program’s 600th victory in Coeur d’Alene.

The Lights earned a victory in the 125-pound class with senior Sean Costello beating NIC freshman Kyle McCrite 10-8 in overtime and another with a 5-0 decision at 184 pounds.

That ended Montana State Northern’s scoring.

Freshmen Jesse Nielsen and Roger McCovey earned pins for the Cardinals at the 165- and 285-pound classes, respectively.

Eric Luna also added the most lopsided score of the dual, a 22-6 technical fall of Joe Drinkwater at 149 pounds.
