NEWUCOlogo1Central Oklahoma wrestling coach David James grew up in the late ’60s and ’70s in Del City alongside the Smith brothers and his own brother Ronnie James, who has gone on to be a successful high school coach. David James, who has coached UCO to 12 NAIA and NCAA Division II championships, talks about his life in wrestling.

The first time I can recall being exposed to wrestling was at 5 or 6 years of age and my aunt had me involved in Del City’s homecoming as a ring bearer. She used to pick me up early in the morning and I would see the wrestlers running. She had a lot todo with that. What I liked about it at the time, being at a young age I thought, man, I could still recall the smell, the intensity and just the role models. I thought man, I’d like to do that.
