Mandelaro: Brockport tourney draws top wrestling teams in NCAA
Saturday’s 11th annual Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Wrestling Tournament will feature eight of the top Division I teams in the nation, and two of the greatest local wrestlers in history.
Ohio State, which finished second to Iowa in last year’s NCAA Championships, headlines the guest list. All eight teams coming to Tuttle North Gym participated in the NCAA Tournament last year: Oklahoma, Rutgers, Ohio State, Edinboro (sixth), Kent State, Army, Buffalo and Liberty.
Four-time New York state champion, Alex Ekstrom of Palmyra-Macedon, and three-time state champ Ian Paddock of Warsaw are freshmen at Oklahoma and Ohio State, respectively.
