Edinboro, Gannon’s Bowers stand out at PSAC wrestling championships
EDINBORO – Three years ago, Corey Bowers was putting down hardwood flooring with his brother back at home in Maryland, with no idea when or if he might wrestle in college again.
On Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse, he became part of wrestling history at Gannon University, the one school that reached out to find him.
Bowers’ harrowing 4-3 win over Clarion’s Jay Ivanco in the 133-pound final earned the Golden Knights their first PSAC champion in the program’s second year in the conference.
“I never thought I would get back to wrestling at this level,” said Bowers, a fifth-year senior who improved to 17-1 with three wins Saturday. “That match (against Ivanco) was the most fun I’ve had wrestling in a long, long time.”
