Minnesota Wrestling Signs Jacob Kaufman of Oregon

Minneapolis – University of Minnesota head wrestling coach J Robinson and the Golden Gopher Wrestling Program are pleased to announce the recent signing of high school senior Jacob Kaufman to an Acceptance of Admission.

Kaufman is a native of Newberg, Ore. and will graduate this spring from Newberg High School.

A high school teammate of current Golden Gopher freshman Alec Ortiz, Kaufman was forced to miss his senior season due to injury. Previously, however, he was a three-time runner-up at the Oregon State Tournament, and is projected to compete at 165-pounds in college.

Outside the high school ranks he added even more honors, as he was a Cadet and Junior National All-American.

Kaufman is the ninth Gopher Wrestling signee this season, and joins an already stellar class of recruits for 2010-2011. He will begin his Golden Gopher career next fall.

The 2009-10 edition of Minnesota wrestlers recently finished off their season at the NCAA championships where for the 13th time in 14 years they claimed a finish inside the top-10, placing seventh. The Gophers had four wrestlers earn All-America, the second best mark in the country, and were led by National Champion Jayson Ness. Minnesota returns three All-Americans in 2010-11.
