Browne becomes Nebraska volunteer assistant wrestling coach

LINCOLN – The University of Nebraska wrestling program announced Thursday afternoon that Plattsmouth native Brandon Browne has joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.

Browne will begin his second year with the Husker program after serving as the team’s club coach last season. He won consecutive Big 12 Conference championships at 174 pounds in 2008 and 2009 and was a two-time All-American. He placed fourth at the NCAA Championships as a junior and seventh as a senior.

Browne compiled a 79-15 career record and went 65-9 during his final two seasons. His career .840 winning percentage is seventh on the school’s all-time list. He earned a psychology degree from Nebraska in August 2009.

Browne’s brother Cameron will be a senior on the Husker wrestling team in the 2010-11 season.

Browne is one of three recently-hired additions to the Husker staff. The program announced earlier this month that former four-time All-American wrestler Bryan Snyder will be an assistant coach. The team announced Thursday that recent graduate Craig Brester will be an administrative assistant for the program. They will join 11th-year head coach Mark Manning and fifth-year assistant coach Tony Ersland.
