The North Carolina State wrestling program received more good news today regarding their 2011 recruiting class. One week after getting a nod from PA State Runner-Up Coltin Fought (Benton, 133), Coach Carter Jordan received a verbal pledge from three-time Alabama State Champion, Henry Carlson.
Wrestling for Alabama’s most prestigious high school program, Vestavia Hills, Carlson racked up the hardware on the national scene. He twice reached the finals at NHSCA Nationals. He followed up a title as a Freshman with a runner-up performance his Sophomore year. Carlson is also a 2x Fargo medalist.
Henry may be pressed into duty early, as the Wolfpack lose their most dynamic wrestler, former National Champion, Darrion Caldwell (149), and their only NCAA qualifier last year, Bobby Ward (157), at the conclusion of this season.
Carlson will fit the bill well. He was featured as the 10th best recruit in the country at 149lbs in TheOpenMat’s Top Prospect Report released last week.
He recently moved back to his home state of Virginia to complete his senior year, and high school wrestling career, at the perennial powerhouse Cox (Virginia Beach) program.
