FloNationals Champ is a Binghamton Bearcat
Willie Saylor, Editor
New York State product Nick Gwiazdowski (215, Duanesburg, NY) has made his college decision, opting to stay in-state and wrestle for Pat Popolizio’s defending CAA Champion Binghamton Bearcats.
Gwiazdowski, a 3rd place state finisher as a sophomore, really hit the national radar this season with a banner year.
The prelude to his junior year started with an impressive 3rd place finish at the Super32. In the regular season, he posted a 49-1 record and won a New York State title.
This offseason he solidified his position as one of the top big man recruits in the country. In March, Gwiazdowski won the inaugural FloNationals with a finals win over fellow ranked Tank Knowles of California. In the summer, he placed 3rd in both legs of the Mecca of high school wrestling: the Fargo Junior Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships.
Gwiazdowski will be featured in our Top Prospect Report in the coming weeks, being recognized as one of the nation’s premier recruits.
He joins fellow NYS Champion Derak Heyman (149, Tioga, NY), an honorable mention in our TPR, as premier Bearcat commitments of the 2011 class.
