Oregon State Wrestling Opens At Boise State

Beavers Open 2010-11 Regular Season> Oregon State opens its 2010-11 regular season Saturday night when making the trek to Boise to square off with No. 2 Boise State at Taco Bell Arena. The meet’s start time is scheduled for 8 p.m. PT (9 p.m. in Boise).

Media> Boise State is not expected to have live stats through the NWCA portal. If they are available, they will be linked to osubeavers.com. Boise State will provide live video of the event via BroncoVision on broncosports.com. There is, however, a fee for the service and the event can be purchased for $10.95 (monthly fee).

On The March To Philadelphia> The Beavers’ first meet will be significant for OSU as the wrestling team starts to defend its seventh Pacific-10 Conference title, achieved last year at UC Davis. The Beavers’ goal, however, is a national title at the NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 17-19 in Philadelphia.

That’s Quite The Returning Core> Oregon State returns five NCAA qualifiers from a year ago, including Colby Covington, who won the 174-pound class at the Pac-10 Championships last season. The Beavers will travel all five returning NCAA qualifiers from a year ago to Boise, with Covington, Kelly Kubec and Clayton Jack all earning at least one ranking in the top 10 of their respective weight classes to open the year.

Freshman Heavy, Too> As can be seen below, the Beavers are expected to have three freshmen in Saturday night’s lineup, including a true freshman in Salem’s Alex Elder. Scott Sakaguchi and John Tuck have cracked the projected lineup after redshirting the 2009-10 season.

Start Off With Some Rankings> The Pac-10 title turned some heads last season and OSU is ranked 22nd in the coaches poll to start the year. OSU is one of four Pac-10 teams in it.
