UFC 127: Penn and Fitch battle to majority draw, Bisping classless in win
The Stalemate in Sydney.
For the second time in less than two months, a UFC main event ended in a draw, with BJ Penn and Jon Fitch completing UFC 127 at Acer Arena with no winner.
The fight card was conducted Sunday afternoon in Australia and Saturday evening in North America.
Penn (16-7-2) and Fitch (23-3-1) battled it out through three rounds, but if the fight had been five, Fitch was in position to break the tie. Fitch took down Penn at the opening bell of the third round and relentlessly pounded him from the guard the entire time. It was not enough to finish Penn, but it gave Fitch the round he needed in the mind of two of the judges, who had given Penn the edge after two rounds. Fitch won 29-28 on one card and the other two were 28-28.
