Bryce Brill Verbally Commits to Northwestern University

Bryce Brill, Marmion Academy High School freshman, has verbally committed to wrestle at Northwestern University for Head Coach Drew Pariano.

Bryce is the 2011 Illinois Class 2A State Champion at 135 pounds. During the state series, Bryce achieved championships at the Regional and Sectional tournaments. Bryce is driven and not only strives for success on the mat, but first and foremost in the classroom. Bryce academically has earned honor roll status at Marmion Academy, allowing him to pursue his dream of being a student athlete at Northwestern, and wrestling in the Big 10.

In addition to folkstyle wrestling, Bryce trains year around and competes in Freestyle, and Greco Roman style wrestling during the off-season.

Last July, prior to his freshman year, Bryce wrestled at 119 pounds for Team Illinois during the USAW Freestyle Cadet National Duals and at the Cadet National Championships as an underclassman in Freestyle. Bryce earned All-American honors in both events by going undefeated (8-0) at the Duals and winning 10 matches in a row before dropping a very close 3 period decision in the finals. This effort earned Bryce runner up honors at the prestigious National Championships in Fargo.

Dean Branstetter of Marmion Academy is Bryce’s folkstyle coach. At the club level, Bryce trains in the off-season at the Overtime School of Wrestling, and is coached by Sean Bormet, John Kading, Kerry Boumans and Ed Giese. Brill is projected to wrestle 157/165 in college.

Bryce says that, “Northwestern combines Big Ten wrestling with exceptional academics, which is very important to me. In addition, NU has a track record of developing guys into NCAA All-Americans and National Champions. Finally, I have big freestyle aspirations and the fact that Jake Herbert was a World Silver Medalist and a 2X University World Bronze Medalist proves to me that Northwestern takes its Olympic style wrestling very seriously. I also have big goals outside of wrestling and NU will help me prepare to achieve those goals too. I look forward to my days of being a student athlete at Northwestern”.

Brill will graduate from Marmion Academy in the spring of 2014.
