After no contest, Gesias Cavalcante anxious to get back in Strikeforce cage
Grateful and hungry.
Those are the two words that best describe Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante.
When talking to the Strikeforce lightweight, it is apparent that he is enjoying life. He is content doing what he loves for a career, and no matter if Cavalcante is fighting in a ring or cage, if he is training, making movies or starring in the hit MMA show Miami Hustle, the Brazilian is upbeat and positive.
Cavalcante was matched against Justin Wilcox at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum, but the outcome was not one either fighter desired. After a solid first round put in by the pair, disaster happened. At 31 seconds into the second round Cavalcante threw a left hook as Wilcox was coming toward JZ, and accidentally poked “The Silverback” in the eye.
The fight was deemed no contest, and even though Cavalcante is bummed about the decision, he does not dwell on the outcome.
“It’s frustrating,” Cavalcante explained to MMADieHards.com. “At first I didn’t know what was going on or what was happening. I pray every day for God to give me what I need, and not just what I want. If this is something I have to go through to get better and keep improving in life, then that’s what I do. I have to keep moving forward.”
Cavalcante wants another crack at Wilcox, and he will get his chance. But as eager as the Brazilian is to get back in the cage, his bigger concern is that Wilcox is healthy.
“I think that’s what everybody wants to see,” Cavalcante said. “That’s what the fans want to see and that’s what I want, too. That’s what he wants, too, but we have to see how the eye is doing. I hope he’s good, and not just because I want to fight him again, but because I don’t want him to be out because of an accident. I hope he is good and gets healthy.”
