Kraisser to Carolina

Super32 Champ to be a Tar Heel

Willie Saylor, Editor

The recruiting prowess of the North Carolina Tar Heel wrestling program continued when, on Tuesday morning, the staff received a verbal commitment for the class of 2012 from one of the most decorated high school wrestlers in the country.

Coming off an incoming class that TheOpenMat ranked 12th nationally, the Tar Heels get off to a great start in 2012.

Nathan Kraisser, a 3-time state champion from Centennial, Maryland has opted to head to Chapel Hill to continue his wrestling career.

Kraisser is coming off a double All-American performance in Fargo last week. Between Fargo and Fila’s, Kraisser has amassed 9 international-style All-American honors.

His signature moment came last fall when he impressed all at the Super32. En route to the coveted belt, Kraisser beat Earl Hall, 13-0 in the semifinals before upending Joey Dance in the finals, 4-2.

Kraisser will be featured in our upcoming Top Prospect Report, and is projected as a 125/133 lb resource for Carolina.

Kraisser offered up the following in response to his decision to attend UNC:

WS: What led to your decision to head to North Carolina?

NK:  I felt comfortable there. I think at North Carolina, I can accomplish my goals.

WS: What other schools were you considering?

NK: Virgina Tech and Maryland

WS: What is your relationship with the coaches and wrestlers at UNC like?

NK: I had already developed a relationship with Cary Kolat. He was my club coach since 6th grade. So, I felt very comfortable with him. The wrestlers, I know many of them, too. I grew up wrestling with many of them from junior high on up.

WS: Talk about your experience on your recruiting trip to North Carolina.

NK: On my recruiting trip I was able to get familiar with the other kids on the team. Another thing that was important is that I was able to learn more about the academic programs available at North Carolina.

WS: What are your college goals?

NK: My goals are to earn multiple All-American honors and be a National Champion.
