Top Prospect Reyes Verbals to Illini
Nikko Reyes Headed to Illinois
Willie Saylor, Editor
California State Champion, Nikko Reyes, made his college plans on Saturday. The Clovis West product has given verbal affirmation to the staff at The University of Illinois, coached by Jim Heffernan, Mark Perry, and Jeremy Hunter.
Reyes is the first commitment for the Illini in the 2012 Class.
Wrestling at 171lbs last year, Reyes had a banner season. He won the Reno Tournament of Champions, the Doc Buchanan, and the state title in what was one of California’s deepest brackets.
In Virginia Beach, Reyes bested all comers in the Junior 171 division, claiming a High School National title with four falls including one on the finals.
As a Sophomore, Reyes placed 3rd in California, and went on to win the Sophomore National title in Virginia Beach.
Reyes, who will sit atop the list of TOM’s College Prospects at 174/184lbs when they are released next month, chose Illinois over Ohio State, Old Dominion, and Virginia Tech.
