ASU’s Trotman Named Wrestler of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State senior Austin Trotman has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions through November 15.
Trotman cruised to a 4-0 performance at the Hokie Open on the opening weekend of the season to earn the 184-pound title, improving on his sixth-place showing from last season. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native defeated wrestlers from Old Dominion, North Carolina and Virginia Tech before defeating Newberry’s Mitch Brown, 10-3, in the championship match.
Trotman then routed Belmont Abbey’s Jerami Bartley with a 21-6 technical fall in his only dual so far this season.
Other Nominees: James Cook (Campbell), Kelby Smith (The Citadel), Scott Patrick (Davidson), Patrick Myers (SIU-Edwardsville), Nick Soto (Chattanooga) and Carry Joseph (VMI).
