Chattanooga Downs Davidson Wrestling in SoCon Match
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Chattanooga won seven of the eight contested bouts en route to a 47-3 victory over Davidson in Southern Conference wrestling action Sunday afternoon in Belk Arena.
Junior Matt Zarth earned Davidson’s (0-10, 0-3 SoCon) lone victory at 125 pounds, taking an 8-3 decision over Chattanooga’s (10-3, 3-0 SoCon) Blake Thomas. Freshman Anthony Elias battled hard for the ‘Cats in a spirited bout with Nick Soto, the 14th-ranked wrestler in the country at 133 pounds, but ultimately yielded at 22-9 major decision.
The Wildcats spotted the Mocs six points at the start by forfeiting the heavyweight boutbefore Zarth halved the lead with his decision. Chattanooga then went on toscore bonus points in each of the remaining bouts, led by pins by Shawn Greevy in 6:27 (141 pounds), Trey Starvum in 4:12 (174) and Robert Prigmore in 3:42 (197). Kelly Felix scored a technical fall at 149 pounds.
Davidson returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Duke.
