Gelogaev Named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State heavyweight Alan Gelogaev was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his weekend performance in a pair of duals against Arizona State and Iowa State, the conference announced today.

Gelogaev went 2-0 with a pair of wins over top-10 opponents. The Moscow, Russia, native is undefeated in NCAA competition this year and has a team-best 13 bonus-point wins.

After missing all of last season due to injury, Gelogaev is now ranked No. 3 nationally at heavyweight and storming past his opponents. He began the weekend with an impressive 6-1 victory over Arizona State’s No. 9 Levi Cooper. He followed that up with a 13-1 major decision over 10th-ranked Matt Gibson of Iowa State.

Gelogaev, known as “Z,” holds an 8-0 dual record and has scored 34 dual points. In addition to the five major decisions he has scored this season, he has also recorded eight falls.

This marks the first time this season an Oklahoma State wrestler has been named the conference wrestler of the week. It is also the first time in Gelogaev’s career he has received the honor.

The Cowboy wrestling squad resumes competition with a trio of matches this weekend, first taking on North Carolina State Friday at 7 p.m. and a double-header
