Trotman Selected as Wrestler of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State senior Austin Trotman has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competitions from January 4-10.
Trotman dominated his three duals last week at 184 pounds, scoring 17 of a possible 18 match points to lead the Mountaineers to a 3-0 week.
On Thursday, he earned a second-period pin to help the Mountaineers to a sweep of George Mason in the teams’ first-ever meeting. It was ASU’s first shutout of a Division I opponent in nearly four years.
Trotman then recorded the team’s second fastest pin of the year with a 20-second fall against Cleveland State’s Corbin Boone.
He wrapped up the week with an 18-3 technical fall in SoCon action against Campbell’s TeShaun Johnson to tie the program record for career wins at 114.
Other Nominees: Nick Rex (Campbell), Justin Guthrie (Gardner-Webb), Deshoun White (SIUE), Levi Clemons (Chattanooga) and Matthew Brock (VMI).
